1/6 @NEARFoundation is building AI-powered “digital twins” that can vote in DAO governance on behalf of users. The goal? To solve the low participation problem that affects most DAOs (where only 15–25% of members usually vote).  🧵
2/6 Each “digital twin” learns your preferences from your voting history, chats, and community interactions and then votes accordingly. “You kind of set this thing loose… it acts and votes on your behalf,” says Lane Rettig, AI & governance researcher at @NEARFoundation.
@NEARFoundation 3/6 The rollout will happen in stages: Phase 1: chatbot-like assistants helping users understand proposals Phase 2: AI delegates for large voting groups Phase 3: fully personal AI agents representing each DAO member
@NEARFoundation 4/6 Rettig emphasizes that humans will still have a final say on critical votes (like fund allocations or strategic shifts): "There should always be a human in the loop." The AI can recommend, but the human can override.
@NEARFoundation 5/6 NEAR already uses AI (e.g. Pulse) to track community sentiment. But with AI delegates, governance could become “a math problem” — decisions executed almost instantly as agents know how everyone will vote ahead of time.
